Popis: Carcinoid tumors are relatively rare neoplasms arising from the amine precursor uptake and decarboxylation (APUD) cells of the gastrointestinal tract and bronchial tree. Presenting symptoms vary by site of origin, and various modalities may be used to diagnose them. Initial treatment is surgical, with procedure depending upon site of origin. Several experimental therapies may be used in treatment of metastatic carcinoid tumors.
