Popis: In Mexico typhoid fever (TF) is still a disease of major importance. The reports of TF complicating pregnancy are few in number, nevertheless the majority of authors agree than pregnancy does not alter the clinical presentation or the laboratory findings of the patient with TF. In these cases data suggest unfavorable perinatal outcome with a greater frequency of abortions and premature delivery. We report five cases of TF complicating pregnancy; one patient aborted, one had a preterm labor with neonatal dead of the product, and the other three had a normal pregnancy without abnormalities of the newborns. An improved outcome of the pregnant women complicated with TF is associated with a proper diagnosis and early treatment with ampicillin of ceftriaxone. Chloramphenicol is contraindicated during pregnancy.
