Popis: 302 patients after acute myocardial infarction were followed up. The average age was 52.28 years, the average time elapsed since discharge from hospital to the first examination by an exercise test was 45.35 days. 141 patients went through an out-patients' rehabilitation programme, 161 patients abstained from rehabilitation. The initial values of both groups of patients were identical. On the basis of a two and three-year observation the authors conclude that a low tolerance of physical load and heart volume above 790 ml are among the factors worsening the long-term prognosis of patients after myocardial infarction. The lower mortality of rehabilitated patients is certainly the result of all components of more intensive therapeutic care, surveillance and health education.
