Superior mesenteric artery injuries remain a challenge to even the most experienced trauma surgeon and continue to carry a significant mortality in spite of aggressive management. If possible, primary arteriorrhaphy should be performed, as mortality has been shown to increase with more complex methods of repair. This probably emphasizes the severity of the vascular injury and hemorrhagic complications rather than the complications of the repair itself. |
