Subtotal thyroidectomy, the preferred option for eu- and hyperthyroid goitre

| Popis: | A series of 268 patients operated on for benign thyroid diseases is presented. Totally 168 subtotal thyroidectomies and 100 hemithyroidectomies have been performed, with no mortality and 0.74% morbidity. Postoperative thyroid function was assessed in 135 patients; this demonstrated that many patients do not need postoperative hormone supplementation and that subtotal thyroidectomy must be considered the intervention of choice, even in uninodular forms. |
