US (UZ-TAPB)-controlled fine-needle aspiration biopsy of nodular formations of the thyroid gland (TG) is a method of screening of patients requiring surgical treatment. There is but little information about its successful employment for the diagnosis of the I stage TG carcinoma. UZ-TAPB results on 160 TG nodular formations are analyzed and compared with the findings from the postoperative pathohistological diagnosis. UZ-TAPB has been shown to be of high informative value in the diagnosis of the I stage TG carcinoma. High sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic accuracy (98.1%, 94.7%, and 95.9% respectively) justify making use of the aforesaid method in selection of optimum policy of managing patients presenting with those TG nodular formations running a subclinical course. |
