Popis: Emotions are the products of social, historical, and cultural factors. That is, they are neither private, internal, states of mind, nor “irrational moments” that happen to people when they “lose their minds,” as is commonly believed. And, in addition to their social elements, emotions have cognitive aspects that inform, and are informed by values embedded in social practices. Showing how this is the case in various contexts throughout the Americas is the fundamental purpose of this book. In this way, it builds on the theoretical legacy of approaches to emotion in both the social sciences and humanities.
