| Popis: | Né à Eleusis en 1914, Thanos Tsingos a étudié l’architecture à l’Université nationale technique d’Athènes, à une époque de renouvellement radical de la profession. La seconde guerre mondiale l’amène au Moyen-Orient, au Soudan, au Brésil et enfin à Paris. Copropriétaire du théâtre de la Gaîté-Montparnasse, scénographe, puis peintre de renom, Tsingos cependant n’a cessé de penser à la ville et à l’architecture. Sa fin précoce en 1965 à Athènes nous a laissé des documents très fragmentaires d’une vie audacieuse. Le présent article entreprend une recomposition partielle de l’œuvre de Thanos Tsingos, principalement dans des domaines qui restent inexplorés. Notre objectif est de localiser des fragments d’information concernant ses activités en dehors de la peinture, de réhabiliter sa personnalité et le milieu amical dans lequel elle a évolué, et d’explorer ses itinéraires dans le contexte de l’avant-garde française et grecque de l’après-guerre. Thanos Tsingos was born in Eleusis in 1914 and studied architecture at the National Technical University of Athens, at a time when the profession was undergoing a radical sea change. The Second World War brought him to the Middle East, the Sudan, Brazil and finally to Paris. He worked as a scenographer, became a renowned painter, and was co-owner of the Gaîté-Montparnasse theatre, but the city and its architecture were always on his mind. His early death in Athens in 1965 left us with fragments of documents that tell of a life lived fearlessly. This article provides a partial reconstitution of Thanos Tsingos’ lesser-known work. It aims to localise fragments of information about his activities outside of painting, to rehabilitate his character and the friends he frequented and to explore his travels in the context of the post-war French and Greek avant-garde. |
