L’Aveuglement des habitants de Sodome, acquisition récente du musée du Louvre, est un chef-d’œuvre peint en 1639 par Laurent de La Hyre pour le chancelier Séguier. Parvenu jusqu’à nous dans un état de conservation précaire, il avait subi anciennement une transposition et présentait des agrandissements et des repeints iconographiques. Sa restauration dans les ateliers du C2RMF, au cours d’une longue enquête technique et historique, a permis de lui redonner son format original et de rétablir son message iconographique par la suppression des repeints. Recently acquired by the Louvre, The Blinding of the Inhabitants of Sodom is a masterpiece painted for Chancellor Séguier in 1639 by Laurent de La Hyre. On its arrival in the museum, it was in a precarious condition, owing to a previous transposition and the presence of iconographical enlargements and repaints. During its restoration in the C2RMF workshops, in the course of lengthy historical and technical investigations, it regained both its original format and iconographical message, following the removal of the repaints. |
