Türkiye oldukça yüksek mermer potansiyeli ve farklı renk, desen ve çeşide sahip olması nedeniyle dünyada önemli bir ülkedir. Buna ilaveten, ülkemizde mermer (doğaltaş) talebindeki artışa paralel olarak üretim miktarı da doğru orantılı olarak artmaktadır.Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri (CBS) hem konumsal bilgi sistemlerine ilişkin bilgi içeren ve coğrafik bilgiyi irdeleyen bir bilimsel kavram hem de organizasyona yardımcı olan bir veri tabanı yönetim sistemi olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Bu arada, CBS altında yapılan çoğu uygulamanın çalışmaların amacına göre isimlendirildikleri görülmektedir.Ülkemizde sayısal ortamda bir mermer envanterine rastlanılmamıştır. Bu nedenle bu çalışmada Mermer (Doğaltaş) Bilgi Sistemi (MBS) olarak adlandırılan bir bilgisayar yazılım programı geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu programda, doğal taş lokasyonları ve bu lokasyonlara ait fiziko-mekanik özellikler, yerleşim yerleri, göller, akarsular, karayolları bilgileri sisteme dahil edilmiştir. Ayrıca, geliştirilen bu program için, Sivas iline ait sayısallaştırılmış jeolojik haritalar ile MİGEM tarafından verilmiş ruhsatların bilgileri de sisteme dahil edilerek, örnek bir çalışma yapılmıştır. Yeni veri girişleri ile sistemin gelişeceği ve ileride daha kullanışlı olacağı düşünülmektedir. Böylelikle geliştirilen sistem gelecekte yoğun biçimde kullanılabilecektir. Turkey is an important country in the world in terms of having high marble potential, different colors, type and pattern of it. Moreover, marble production also increase directly with respect to increasing of demand of marble (natural stone) in our country.Geographical Information System (GIS) can be defined as both scientific concept including system of locational knowledge and investigating geographical information and databae system management helping of organization. Meanwhile, It can be seen that many applications on GIS are given different names with regards to the study?s aim .There is no study about digital marble inventory in our country. Therefore, it is aimed to develope computer software named as Marble (Natural Stone) Information System (MIS) in this study. In this programme, locations of natural stones, physical and mechanical properties of them, settlements, lakes, rivers, highways are included in this system. Furthermore, digitized geological maps and license informations given by General Directory of Mining Affairs belongs to the Sivas province were also incorporated and an example was performed for it.It is expected that this system will be developed and useful with new data entries in advance.
