SUMMARY In this study, we aimed to compare the results of renal scans with Tc99m MAG-3 (Mercaptoacetyltriglycine) and Tc99m DMSA ( dimercaptosuccinic acid), in terms of the detection of renal cortical defects and split renal function in pediatric patients. For this reason, we reevaluated 72 pediatric patients who had both Tc99m DMSA and Tc99m MAG-3 renal scans and compared the results. There was a statistically good corelation between Tc99m DMSA and Tc99m MAG-3 renal scan results for split renal function. Tc99m DMSA scan is the most effective method in the detection of renal cortical scar tissue. On the other hand, in most of the cases (exept 5 cases) Tc99m MAG-3 scan showed similar renal cortical defect detectability which obtained from Tc99m DMSA study. By visual analysis, optimal time interval was 1 to 2 minutes for Tc99m MAG-3 renal scans in the detection of renal cortical defects. As a result, especially in pediatric patient group in which radiation burden is critical, Since similar results can be obtained using this two radiopharmaceuticals, if there is no definite clinical diagnosis, it is not necessary to perform two different renal scan. 47 55 |
