Popis: Objective: To examine the efficacy of clindamycin vaginal cream and vaginal metronadizole for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis in intrauterin device users. Study Design: 66 women with bacterial vaginosis using intrauterin device were assigned to receive either 2% clindamycin vaginal cream or metronidazole vaginal tablet for 7 days. Quantitative vaginal cultures for bacterial vaginosis were performed at enrollment and at 4-7 days and 30 days after completion of therapy. Results: Of the 66 patients using intrauterin device enrolled, 19 (61%) of 31 were cured with clindamycin, compared with 21 (60%) of 35 were cured with metronidazole at 30 days. No significant difference was observed between the treatment groups in the incidence of adverse events. Conclusion: Clindamycin 2% vaginal cream offers similar efficacy to vaginal metronidazole administration for treatment of bacterial vaginosis in women using intrauterin devices.
