Taurine, 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid is an important endogenous amino acid found in the central nervous system. In our body, it plays a role in many physiological mechanisms such as central nervous system development, thermoregulation, anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidation, osmoregulation, calcium homeostasis. Due to these beneficial effects, taurine has become popular recently. Taurine is found in many products we use in our daily life. However, according to recent research, it was not found to be completely safe. It is very important to examine the use of taurine due to increased use. Therefore, based on our studies and other studies in the literature; we tried to examine the beneficial and harmful effects of taurine, the appropriate dose amount and its role in the neurodegenerative process in this review. |
