The study was conducted in order to examine opinions and experiences of Information and CommunicationTechnologies (ICT) teachers in Turkey on use of robotics in education as well as to guide ICT teachers who are to use thesetechnologies. Qualitative method was used in the study. The data were collected via nine semi-structured questions in aninterview form from fifteen ICT teachers. Results of the study show that the teachers mostly prefer demonstration &performance method, lecture method and learning by doing method. According to teachers, teaching robotics contributes totheir professional development mostly in the aspects of keeping themselves updated with emerging knowledge and practiceswhich in turn contributes to their students and contributes to productivity. Lego products and Arduino are the kits that aremostly preferred. The teachers think that robotics affects the students mainly in the aspects of problem solving, thinking, groupworking skills and outcome based work. Finally, costs of the kits, limited course time and oversized classes are stated as thechallenges of teaching robotics. |
