Geneticallymodified bacteria refer to bacteria that have undergone deliberate modificationin their genome (DNA/RNA) using recombinant DNA technology and that haveacquired distinct genotypic or phenotypic features or properties. GM bacteria containinginduced genes of interest can be used to produce a large amount of recombinantproteins. Furthermore, GM bacteria are of great scientific interest as deliveryvehicles for biological products and have attracted significant commercialinvestment. GM bacteria have shown promise for sustainable agriculturaldevelopment, environmental remediation and therapeutic application, with a slewof new technologies on the horizon. |
