It is known that most drug manufacturers recommend the same doses of drugs for sheep and goats in their instructions. However, it should be pointed out that there are certain specificities (primarily a different and faster metabolism) in goats, which condition different doses and dosing of drugs in these animals. For this reason, doses of drugs recommended for sheep or cattle cannot be used in goats. There are several reasons for this statement: a) First of all, the elimination half-time of some drugs, including many anthelmintics, which are eliminated mainly through the liver (via bile), is twice as short in goats as compared to sheep. For this reason, the doses of the mentioned drugs are 1.5 to 2 times higher than those recommended for sheep. Also, the elimination half-life of meloxicam in goats is much shorter (6.73 hours) compared to cattle (24 hours) and sheep (10.85 hours). Since the elimination half-life of any drug directly affects the dosing interval, so in this and similar cases, it is recommended a shorter dosing interval in goats. Zbornik radova i kratkih sadržaja
