Popis: This study aimed to combine the superior taste and flavor properties of domestic strawberry cultivars with the fruit firmness of foreign cultivars. Experiments were conducted during 2015-2017 growing period at Alata Horticulture Research Station and Çukurova University Department of Horticulture. Three local strawberry varieties ‘Kaşka’, ‘Sevgi’ and ‘Ebru’ developed by long-term breeding actives in Horticulture Department, were used as pollinator. The varieties ‘Albion’, ‘Fortuna’ and ‘Sabrosa’ which are popular and firm-fleshed were used as female parent. In this study, some important pomological characteristics of promising 13 genotypes and their parents were determined during the active harvest period (March, April, May). Genotypes ‘121’ and ‘169’ found to have the highest TSS (10.7% and 10.3%) levels. The fruits harvested in April were found to be the sweetest with 9.9% TSS compared to other months. The lowest acid content was detected in the genotype ‘121’ and ‘Fortuna’. As a result; it was noted that genotypes ‘112’ and ‘36 ’maintained their fruit weights during the growing season and could compete with commercial varieties. Another significant result is that genotypes ‘121’ and ‘169’ have high TSS values above the desired level. In order to improve relatively low fruit firmness values in the hybrids as the level of commercially important varieties thus, backcross breeding studies have been initiated by us. © 2019, Centenary University.
