Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) had become the first line of treatment indicated for a wide range of mental health disorders. It is relevant to mention that CBT was developed, evaluated, and revised predominantly in settings and on populations that reflect European-American set off values. That being said, one’s culture shapes perception of health and well-being, beliefs about causes and remedies. Therefore, adapting treatments to be more culturally responsive is highly advisable. Although rationale for cultural adaptations is quite clear, the body of research that would inform evidence-based practice is still limited. The aims of this review were to synthesize the literature on efficacy of culturally adapted CBT in comparison to unadapted CBT for outpatient populations in randomized control trials reflecting also identified risks of bias for randomized trials. Additional aim was to describe the process and relevant elements .of cultural adaptation with reflection on quality of said primary studies. |
