Popis: U ovom diplomskom radu provedena je usporedna analiza povijesnih romana Zlatarovo zlato Augusta Šenoe i Kći Lotrščaka Marije Jurić Zagorke. Rad započinje analizom Šenoina i Zagorkina statusa u povijestima hrvatske književnosti. Two historical novels are compared and analysed in this diploma thesis, Zlatarovo zlato by August Šenoa and Kći Lotrščaka by Marija Jurić Zagorka. First, Šenoa's and Zagorka's status in the history of Croatian literature is analysed. Then, an overview of the development of historical novels is given as well as Šenoa's and Zagorka's model of a historical novel. The two novels are then compared with emphasis on the plot, the characters and the portrayal of Zagreb. Then, trivial literature is described and compared to canon literature, followed by a summary of trivial elements found in the two novels. Finally, Frye's characteristics of romance are presented, followed by a summary of romantic elements that can be seen in these two novels. The aim of this research is to show that Šenoa's work is seen as high literature, whereas Zagorka's work is seen as trivial literature as well as discuss the validity of such a divide.
