Popis: This dissertation covers topics related to education in Indonesia. Each chapter puts forward empirical evidence relevant to policies. The first essay attempts to capture learning progress from Indonesia’s PISA results from 2012 to 2018. The essay specifically examines the robustness of Indonesia’s PISA trends from changes in demographic composition, enrollment rate, and representativity of the PISA sample. The second and third essays study supply-side policies to improve education outcomes. The second essay investigates whether doubling teachers’ salary through a teacher certification program enhances learning outcomes. The third essay studies whether there are spillover effects of establishing new early childhood services in poor rural areas on the outcome of children not participating in those centers. The dissertation appeals to a broader debate of what works and what does not to enhance learning outcomes in Indonesia.
