Penelitian ini secara garis besar mempunyai dua tujuan utama. Pertama, untuk mendeskripsikan keterlibatan pengamen jalanan dalam Institut Musik Jalanan (IMJ). Kedua, untuk mendeskripsikan peran Institut Musik Jalanan (IMJ) dalam kemandirian pengamen jalanan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara dengan subjek penelitian. Subjek penelitiannya adalah pendiri IMJ, pengurus IMJ, mentor pengamen IMJ, dan empat pengamen jalanan yang terlibat dalam IMJ. Lokasi penelitian dilakukan di Institut Musik Jalanan (IMJ) - Depok, dan juga di ruang mengamen atau bermusik pengamen jalanan IMJ yaitu M Bloc Space-Jakarta Selatan, Mall Plaza Semanggi-Jakarta Pusat dan Gedung Sabilulungan-Bandung pada bulan November 2019 dan Oktober 2020. Penulis menggunakan konsep pengamen jalanan dalam menganalisa penelitian. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa pertama, keterlibatan pengamen jalanan dalam Institut Musik Jalanan (IMJ) terlihat dari semangat pengamen jalanan yang ingin berkarya dan mengembangkan potensi bermusik mereka seperti layaknya seorang musisi, serta mendapatkan ruang bermusik yang layak. Kedua, menunjukkan peran Institut Musik Jalanan (IMJ) dalam kemandirian pengamen jalanan. Dalam hal ini, pengamen jalanan binaan Institut Musik Jalanan (IMJ) telah mendapatkan apresiasi dari berbagai kalangan, serta mendapatkan penghasilan yang lebih baik dibandingan mengamen di jalan. Keberadaan Institut Musik Jalanan (IMJ) memberikan kontribusi dalam upaya peningkatan kemandirian pengamen jalanan. First, to describe the involvement of street singers in the Street Music Institute (IMJ). Second, to describe the role of the Street Music Institute (IMJ) in the independence of street singers. The research subjects were IMJ founders, IMJ administrators, IMJ street singers mentors, and four street singers involved in IMJ. In this case, the street singers assisted by the Street Music Institute (IMJ) have received appreciation from vorious circles, and have gotten a better stage than singing on the streets.
