Popis: U ovom radu analizirale su se osnovne značajke geoinformacijskog sustava (GIS-a) i načina njegovog funkcioniranja te njegove primjene u raznim djelatnosti i svakodnevnom životu. Napravljena je općenita analiza primjene novih digitalnih tehnologija koje se sve više koriste u industriji osiguranja te su u vrlom kratko roku izazvale pravu revoluciju u poslovanju osiguravajućih društava. Analiza trenutnog stanja u korištenju GIS alata na tržištu osiguranja RH pokazala je da se GIS alati trenutno malo koriste u odnosu na njihovu upotrebu na drugim razvijenijim tržištima Europe i svijeta. Mogućnosti upotrebe GIS alata u industriji osiguranja su velike u različitim segmentima poslovanja te mogu imati značajni utjecaj na prihode ali i na profitabilnost. Korištenje takvih alata može značajno unaprijediti i digitalizirati poslovanje osiguranja i omogućiti im konkurentsku prednost. Kroz konkretne primjere upotrebe GIS alata u industriji osiguranja u RH vidljivo je da isti mogu veliku ulogu u rješavanju sve više problema i izazova koje se pojavljuju zbog klimatskih promjena i vremenskih nepogoda koje iste izazivaju u RH i svijetu. Poslovanje osiguravajućih društava u bližoj budućnosti bez upotrebe GIS alata postati će nezamislivo. In this paper, the basic features of the geoinformation system (GIS) and its way of functioning were analysed, as well as its application in various lines of business and everyday life. The use of new digital technologies in the insurance industry have caused a real revolution in a very short period. The analysis of the current situation in the use of GIS tools in the insurance market of the Republic of Croatia has showed that GIS tools are currently little used in comparison with their use on other more developed markets in Europe and world-wide. The possibilities of using GIS tools in the insurance industry are great in different business segments and can have a significant impact on revenues and profitability. The use of such tools can significantly improve and digitize insurance operations and provide insurance companies the competitive advantage. Through concrete examples of the use of GIS tools in the insurance industry in the Republic of Croatia, it is evident that they can play a major role in solving more and more problems and challenges that arise due to climate change and natural disasters that they cause in the Republic of Croatia and in the world. Soon, the business of insurance companies without the use of GIS tools will become unthinkable.
