Popis: The mechanisms and the pathways whereby exercise training increases heart vascularization will be reviewed; neo-angiogenesis involves the formation of new capillaries, which typically occurs with the mechanism of intussusception. In addition, physical exercise favors neo-vasculogenesis, by inducing the mobilization of bone marrow-derived endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) which contribute to the repair and regeneration of injured endothelia. New data will be presented suggesting that also bone marrow-derived mesenchymal adult stem cells (MASCs) may be recruited to the cardiac tissue by exercise training. The therapeutic potential of these cell populations will be addressed.
