Popis: Until the 50s, agricultural practices in the Apennines, mainly dealt with soil and surface runoff control systems, were usually maintained; after the abandonment of unproductive fields, hillsides suffered of landslides, mainly because of their fragility rather than of insufficient control works. Agriculture is now present where mechanization is feasible and there soil erosion easily occur. Such a situation is proved by the realization, since the beginning of the past century, of several hydraulic and retaining works on streams and hillsides, together with political initiatives.
