The 19th century weighed on the change of reception of the modern music. A direction was turned to the old works. The works of the forgotten composers were being discovered, and in the shaping concert bloodstream, apart from premieres, a historical repertoire was given the same rights. Last century the very tendency became strong enough to eliminate the modern music from the social space almost completely, closing it in festival ghettos. Despite a marginalization of the latest works, composers did not remain silent and an aesthetic diversity and stylistic pluralism constitute a fascinating nature of the modern culture today. The duty of an academic staff at music-pedagogic faculties is thus to provide the students with an adequate knowledge on the latest music. Transmitting and arranging information on the 20th and 21st century music, they should sensitize the students to music from various aesthetic circles. They ought to invalidate stereotypes making one to believe that the modern music is complex and unapproachable in a friendly and subtle manner. Referring to the achievements of jazz and rock music, as well as artistic disciplines as literature, theatre, visual art, film, and the attainments of science, using the modern didactic aids, and, above all, listening to music and analyzing scores, they should not as much “teach” the students as “free” their curiosity. |
