Popis: The article focuses on the concept of autofiction and its utility in the interpretation of Javier García Rodríguez´s latest work: Barra americana. His narrative strategy involves toying with the intention of exposing and hiding author´s inner self as well as with taking on the status of a textual construct and re-creating one’s „real” I. The deliberations about Barra americana (some sort of combination of a novel, a collection of short stories and a patchwork of citations) gain clarity and distinctness thanks to the theoretical approach by Ryszard Nycz. His concept of “sylleptical I” seems to be very useful when analysing this “fictional chronicle” by a Spaniard placed in American reality marked by the literary sensibility of David Foster Wallace and Lorrie Moore (and plenty other writers mentioned by García Rodríguez in his polymorphous novel).
