Criminological research shows differences in the way men and women commit crimes, but there is a lack of research on gender differences in homicide. Using life course criminological approach, this paper analyses the life course characteristics of people who commit homicide, identifying specific factors that shaped the individual's criminal career. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the manifestation and influence of social risk factors in the life stories of individuals imprisoned for murder. Existing negative factors that shape criminal behaviour were highlighted: dysfunctional family relations in childhood, tendencies towards violence, alcohol consumption, difficulties at school, in women – recurrent intergenerational trauma through violent relationships with men, in men – negative influence of friends and other relevant factors. The analysis is useful for further research to help ensure the resocialisation, social integration and elimination of negative factors of prisoners. |
