Altough Ranko Marinković's oeuvre is not quantitatively rich, Marinković carefully weighed each sentence before translating it out of imagination on paper, which is why all his work are highly valued and complex, all of which make him a writer of exceptional intellectual and erudite value. His works are intended only for selected readers who have in their intellect stored knowledge from almost all areas of human life, from philosophy and history to the art of chess and art history. Despite this fact, he was and remains one of the best-selling Croatian writers. Sharp in language and keen mind, Marinković attacted politics and social reality solely with his knowledge and pen, sparing no one. Iti s impossible to talk about his work without reference to reality, that is, politics and social reality, which at the time conditioned the literature itself. Marinković tried his best in every generation and wrote at least one masterpiece in each area, including novels and plays and essays and novels. His first works were created in the context of modernism and contain precisely those elements that are citied and explained in this paper. All of Marinković's work are metaphorical and ironic. It needs to be read repeatedly to understand who Marinković is adressing and what is he really aiming for in his sharp, symbolic sentences. In the 1970s, society progressed towards a period of postmodernism that extends to the present day, and athough some consider postmodernism merely a continuation of modernism, it cannot be denied that there is a difference and are noticeable in their work. Marinković kept pace with the times, so his works created after the 1970s were postmodern, although Kiklop is already considered to be the first backbone towards the timeless period. Marinković was one of those writers who used pen, gestures and grimaces more than words. Although he sharply criticized the relationship of politics to literature, he was one of the few writers who advocated for young generations and lost neither faith nor hope for a better future in both literature and theater.
