Popis: This thesis provides a theoretical framework of stylistic analysis and its recent findings which are important for the preservation and recreation of the author´s style in translation. The focus of this thesis is Neil Gaiman´s short story “A Study in Emerald” and the issues of translating style while taking into consideration his intentional intertextuality in order to create a pastiche of Arthur Conan Doyle and H.P. Lovecraft. It also emphasizes the importance of the translator as a reader and in-depth reading of the original before translating. What is more, it discusses recognizing style markers of the original and the difficulties of recreating the stylistic effect of the original text in the translation.
