Popis: Childrens literature, contrary to common beliefs, often poses a challenge for authors and translators due to the linguistic, psychological and social characteristics of its intended audience. It also possesses a number of features which differentiate it from literature written for adults it is usually shorter, its language is simpler, and it often contains the visual element, i.e. illustrations. All of this needs to be taken into consideration when translating for children, and due to this, childrens literature is perceived as one of the most demanding types of literature to translate. This MA thesis provides a theoretical background on the aforementioned features, as well as the first Croatian translation of Katherine Applegates novel The One and Only Ivan, and its analysis. The analysis shows how particular features and challenges encountered in the text were translated into Croatian, with the aim of preserving and successfully conveying the message of the original work. Analiza pokazuje prevoditeljski pristup zahtjevnijim elementima romana u cilju uspješnog prenošenja poruke originalnog djela.
