Popis: Rad nastoji prikazati prozu Kristiana Novaka. This paper seeks to show the Kristian Novak’s prose. At the very beginning of the paper basic information about the author and his work is provided. Then Novak's novels Obješeni, Črna mati zemla and Ciganin, ali najljepši are analyzed and interpreted. Since this paper is about novels that have just emerged on the Croatian literary scene, but are poetically and temporally belonging to the contemporary Croatian prose, they are placed in that context. First Novak's novel Obješeni is presented first, while most of the paper is dedicated to the novels Črna mati zemla and Ciganin, ali najljepši. It is established that all three novels are thematic and refer to important problems that Croatian society faces regarding violence against minority communities, migration crisis and juvenile delinquency. The world of outcasts and outsiders is depicted, as well as the relation between man and nature, which Novak integrated into his novels. The majority of events in all three novels takes place in Međimurje, the author's birthplace, and in every novel, along with the standard language, an idiom specific for this region is used. The central part of the paper is devoted to postmodernistic poetry and narrative strategies represented in Novak's novels. It deals with genre hybridity, since it is almost impossible to determine a unique genre of Novak's novels, then about polyperspectivity, but also about high level of self-author's consciousness. These elements are analyzed in each of the novels and separately in chapters. The analysis shows that all three novels have these elements in common and that they are crucial for understanding the novels, but also for understanding Novak's prose in general. Novels Črna mati zemla and Ciganin, ali najljepši, represent the very top of the contemporary Croatian prose in the last ten years, which this paper confirms.
