Far from a short-term inspiration, the contemporary designer is nourished by a cultured design study, through an analysis of shapes, materials, the idea he wants to communicate, his vision of the world. It is not just a question of embellishing the person through an operation of decoration, but of embedding within the product an immaterial value. It concerns the creation of thought able to stimulate the mind and produce knowledge. In this perspective, the design of a jewel is aimed also to an intellectual consumption. In light of this, the international debate on jewelry-making production requires new perspectives, focused at deepening the design role in the digital age. Industry 4.0 is widespread and affordable while contemporary project culture interfaces with digitalization in an increasingly integrated and inclusive way. The paper analyzes a series of case studies of contemporary jewelry that highlight a renewed relationship between design and technology, as for example, the construction of bio-inspired ornaments. Several examples arise also from the transversal use of processes and post digital productions related to sectors other than the world of jewelry, such as medicine or engineering. This typology of disruptive design often investigates a wider spectrum of themes, including material experimentation or the political, sustainable and ethical issues that affect today's society. |
