Popis: The district of Pompeii was established in 1928, as an aggregation of lands historically pertaining to some of the main towns on the Vesuvian plain: Boscoreale, Torre Annunziata, Scafati, and Gragnano. The district still maintains valuable rural heritage, surviving the pervasive urban insertions of the contemporary era. This allows fabric-based direct surveying and cataloguing of different sorts of traditional Vesuvian architecture and landscape aspects. The current study deals with initial features and transforming patterns of the structures and environments, documenting and representing them from the 18th century to the mid-20th century, providing documentation and schemes of understanding for data-cataloguing and stratigraphy-based building investigations of the qualities they currently embody. Using desk-based surveys and in-situ methodologies for direct recording and interpretation, Pompeii’s rural heritage features have thus been ascertained, classified in historic stages, and assessed from their preservation standpoint. From this it is possible to plan compatible conservation strategies and practices.
