In order for ecosystems to exist over long periods of time, it is essential to preserve their biodiversity, which includes mammals. All living things, including mammals, are in constant motion in search of food and shelter. The use of automatic camera traps allows direct observation of mammal fauna without much disturbance and disruption of their natural dynamics. The cameras are placed in certain locations within the Paklenica National Park. With the biodiversity indices was compared the spatial and temporal dynamics of mammal fauna, and their interrelationships. In the research area, the highest frequency of all recorded species was found in chamois at the location Orlov kuk, and roe deer and red deer at the location Zapadak Šikića. Of the large carnivores, the most common was the brown bear at the location of Zapadak Šikić. The habitat that attracted large mammals the most was the habitat surrounded by young forest. During the year the animals were most active during the summer. Large herbivores were most active during the day, while medium-sized herbivores and carnivores were active in the evening. Finally, recommendations were given for the improvement of future research on the biodiversity of the Paklenica National Park with camera traps. |
