Popis: For more than 20 years now, European metropolises are confronted with transformations of unseen scope in their socio-economic structures. Many consider these changes as a real revolution in the way our societies relate to space and time. New socio-economic contexts arise, which are mainly characterized by an encompassing globalization. Brussels, like many other European cities, is engaging a thorough reflection to develop the ambitious policies that will turn this evolution into a stepping-stone towards a better future. Architecture and urbanism have a significant role to play in taking up the numerous challenges lying ahead. They are, beyond their aesthetic or cultural merits, powerful tool with which quality of life, social cohesion and wellbeing can be improved with high-quality urban transformations and developments, as part of a social and policy project for the future.
