The COVID-19 pandemic is an occupational health and safety issue just as much as a public health matter. This report presents an inter-disciplinary analysis of existing scientific studies, trade union reports, policy reports and news reports on the links between work and health. We analyse occupation and occupation-related factors (such as health insurance, sick leave, housing, socioeconomic positions) that impact exposure to the virus and the safety measures available to workers. Not only in terms of exposure at work, but vulnerable workers on irregular and precarious contracts are also left exposed because of their employment conditions. Low-skilled and low-paid workers, migrant workers and women are among those most exposed to the disease and least likely to have recourse to measures such as paid sick leave, work from home or even representation. |
