Popis: Tracing the path of coexistence between the historical Neapolitan buildings and their gardens, looking at the architecture of the building and vegetation as an inseparable and systemic combination, is a useful exercise when trying to draw new tools for the restoration, enhancement and transmission to the future of the natural built heritage based on a union, often considered unimportant and in some ways problematic, between architecture and nature. The task of the discipline of Restoration is to identify the specificities of the coexistence between built and natural heritage, analyzing how the historical vegetation can be investigated, known and consciously restored as an integral part of the complex of transformations that have characterized the urban fabric of the city. Starting from some experiences of third mission, the essay will address the case studies of the historic gardens of the fifteenth-century Palazzo Penne and the sixteenth-century Palazzo D’Avalos in Naples. These gardens are configured as precious urban breaks in a built environment such as the Neapolitan one, characterized by the absence of large open spaces and large squares. The essay will deal with these themes from the point of view of the building site of knowledge, also outlining possible strategies of conservation, since in both cases the opening of the restoration site is near.
