The Liber abaci by Leonardo Pisano, the Fibonacci, and the Ecdotics of Middle Latin Scientific Texts · The technical and scientific works are neglected by philologists and literary critics for their content and formal peculiarities, which require the development of specific skills, but they deserve a deeper attention for the reconstruction of a variegated cultural world still little explored. A paradigmatic case can be offered by the work of Leonardo Pisano, called the Fibonacci, which includes treatises on arithmetic and geometry. A new, recently published edition of his Liber Abaci allows, through the discussion of some its aspects, to shed light on a series of issues relating to the critical edition of medieval scientific texts in Latin. |
