Nagli porast stope deforestacije Amazone u prve dvije godine njegove vladavine posljedično utječe na povećanje emisije stakleničkih plinova u Brazilu, a time i u svijetu.
The reign of current Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro since 2019 has drawn international attention to the environmental policies in Brazil due to the negative impact on the environment. The sharp rise in the Amazon deforestation rate in his two years in office has consequently resulted in increasing greenhouse gas emissions in Brazil, and thus in the world. The Amazon rainforest presents a global good due to the impact it has on global climate, but also a national good demonstrated by the fact that 60% of its territory is located within the Federal Republic of Brazil. Brazil, due to its vast territory, wealth of natural resources and immense biodiversity plays an important role in global environmental governance. United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in 1992. in Rio de Janeiro significantly strengthened Brazil's position in the international arena. In the second term of president Lula da Silva (2007- 2011) his focus was on the development of environmental policies aimed at climate change mitigation, confirmed by the adoption of the National Policy on Climate Change in 2009. This dissertation highlights the important role and influence of the Brazilian president in the adoption of environmental policies and seeks to answer the question whether environmental policies change with every new change of the government.
