With this workshop on the Congreso Internacional en Linguistica Aplicada a la Ensenanza de Lenguas, Universidad Nebrija hemos celebrado, 28.-30.9.2012, we would like to achieve two major objectives. On the onehand, we would like to present the principles of Project-Based Learning inSecond Languages in a practical manner. On the other hand, we would like toshare our experience in using this method in two parallel courses at theLeuphana Universität in Lüneburg and the Technische Universität Berlin, bothlocated in Germany. Our idea to collaborate in the creation of educational materials which couldbe suitable to our needs arose in 2011. We were looking for a new teachingstrategy to enable students to feel completely involved in situations inwhich they could make practical use of the language, going beyond the limitsof the classroom by carrying out a Project. At the same time, we could notforget the fact that we teach a language course for special purposes, withall what this implies: Developing all four major skills, paying specialattention to the specific vocabulary and creating virtual rooms to learn sothat this process could be continued after the classes. With the passage oftime, we have been able to confirm that this working model enables us toachieve most of the objectives of the university curricula in a much moreefficient way |
