Popis: The work deals with the comparative characteristics of the language used in six Polish magazines for young people: Bravo, Popcorn, Jestem, Machina, Dziewczyna, and Droga. The most significant language features are discussed frequent mistakes (orthographical, lexical, grammatical, phraseological, syntactical); the styles characteristic for the introduction of certain subjects; vocabulary used to emphasise the specific nature of the given magazine (words derived from English, colloquialisms, cliches, youth slang); classic and non-classic methods of persuasion; rhetorical figures of an amusing and ornamental character. The text also discusses the nature of the language of Bravo, Dziewczyna, Popcorn which is supposed to satisfy the readers' sense of snobbery, and superficially refers to youth slang: the language of which is filled with a certain degree of enhanced persuasion leaving the reader susceptible to all (including commercial) suggestion and quasi-aesthetic wordiness. What characterises Droga is that the magazine contains, among other things, many classic rhetorical figures of speech for persuasion for political purposes. The language of Machina is related to the tradition of the alternative press (fanzines).
