In this master’s thesis I was researching the differences in computer knowledge between boys and girls based on Bober competition. In the theoretical part I checked how differences between genders appear and how socialization and gender stereotypes affect this matter. Furthermore, I have researched how important is the role of teachers and the role of the female role model. Until now researches in computer science field in Slovenia about students do not focus on computer knowledge but just the ability to use the computer. This is why I made a research analyzing gender differences with results of Bober contest. In the empiric part I conducted quantitative study based on results of the Bober contest which tests the knowledge in the areas of algorithmic thinking, logical reasoning, development of problem solving skills, use of information technology and its impact on society. The goal of the study was to determine whether there are significant differences in the knowledge in this field between boys and girls statistically. I found out that the differences are small and only in certain tasks statistically significant. For tasks with necessary mathematical skills were somewhat better boys while in tasks related to the communication were better girls. |
