My final thesis paper will be an overview of the main legislative measures adopted by the EU in the field of environmental policy in the period between the first and second Slovenian presidency of the Council of the EU. The growing environmental problems are not only an issue that the EU is facing, but the whole world as well. In its original field, sociology did not include the relationship between nature and society. However, precisely because of the increasingly worse and dangerous consequences that humans have on the environment, experts are now also starting to focus their attention on this area. Legislation plays an important role in the fight against climate change and in protecting the environment, and it binds the countries across the globe to consistently meet and realize its goals. Common environmental policy enables countries to set rules and regulations that are in line with creating a better future and protecting the environment, and collectively strive to improve the situation in which we find ourselves, or into which we have brought ourselves. Joint endeavors are needed for thorough changes, which is what the European Union also strives for. The community of now 28 member states sets an example for other agents and presents itself as a driving force in the creation of environment-friendly policies. |
