Popis: The main components of the structure of residential buildings are the columns and beams. The brick wall is actually a major structural component of all, however, is often assumed to be a nonstructural component in accordance with SNI 03-2847-2002, so in general the effect of the strength and stiffness of the brick walls are rarely taken into value in the design of the building. The purpose of this research is to create a model two storeys residential house in 3D (existing building) using the finite element method. The analysis was made with two-dimensional modeling (shell elements). Modeling of residences include beams, columns, floor slabs, brick walls, and window-frames. Design loads are gravity load and lateral (earthquake) load, so as to determine its effect on the residential structure. Then studied and analyzed on the beam deformation and stress S11 is occurring on the beam, floor slabs, brick walls, columns and window-frames. There was a failure in some region’s beams, walls, and floors, with an indication of the value of the stress (S11) that occurred has exceeded that limit the strength of a concrete. While the simulation results show that the stress (S22) that occurs in the column is still smaller than the compressive strength of concrete, so the column is still in strong shape. Simulation results show that the stress that occurs in the window-frames is smaller than the value of tensile strength and compressive strength of red meranti wood, so the frame is still in strong condition. In general, information on the structural failure of the brick-wall section illustrates the danger of damage to a residential house caused by the earthquake.
