Popis: | This work is a description of the design and the initiation of a Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) serving to investigate the magnetic properties of thin layers and layer systems. The VSM allows the sample to be rotated without removal. The rotation axis is perpendicular to the external magnetic field. The sample temperature can be varied between 4 K and 350 K, the resolution of the VSM is about 5 $\cdot$ 10$^{-14}$ VSM. The epitaxial double-layer system (001)-Fe/Cr/Fe is investigatedwith the VSM and additionally with a Faraday balance. The results are compared to magneto-optical Kerr-effect measurements. In the case of coupled systems it is shown that the surface-sensitive optical methods and the magnetization measurements complement one another and give important supplementary information in each case. |
