Popis: In this experimental study, the effects of pentoxifylline ischemic acute renal failure was investigated. This agent is a prostacyclin stimulator on the vascular tree and an adenosine receptor antagonist as well. For the purpose, in the control group (n=10) rate were undergone right side nephrectomy, followed by renal ischemia at the contralateral side for 60 minutes. In the study group (n=22) the same procedure was applied, however after 60 minutes ischemia, 45 mg/kg pentoxifylline was administered intraperitoneally, just after the clamp at the renal pedicle had been removed. Serum Na, K, BUN and Cre levels were measured 48 hours later and ischemic kidneys were removed for histopathological studies. The results has shown that the biochemical measurements were not significant statistically in the study and control groups. However, histopathological examinations revealed a significant reduction at congestion. In the study group which was given pentoxifylline, pentoxifylline was shown to restorate renal blood flow most probably, not only reducing blood viscosity, but also improving microcirculation and stimulatory effect on the prostacyclin synthesis.
