Antiemetic effect of ondansetron on abdominal gynecologic operations

Popis: In this research, we studied on randomly selected 40 patients, aged between 40-65 years who had abdominal gynecological operations and were classified according to ASA I and ASA II. For 20 patients, intravenously administered ondansetron, in a dose of 8 mg was used before the induction of general anesthesia and the same dosage in injected twice more with 8 hour intervals. Ten of these patients were given intravenously fentanyl perioperatively, while the rest were not. For the other group of patients, 10 mg metoclopramide were administered intravenously and the same doses were repeated two times with 8 hour intervals. Ten of these patients were also given intravenously fentanyl perioperatively, while the others were not. Additional ondansetron and metoclopramide were administered postoperatively, if needed. Each group of patients were compared with regard to nausea and vomiting, postoperatively.
