Malignant sweat gland tumors are very rare form of primary tumors of the skin appendage. In this group, malignant chondroid syringoma is the least common variety. Till 1991, less than twenty cases have been reported. We describe a 30-year-old man with malignant chondroid syringoma of his right hand that arose as a painless, slowly enlarging subcutaneous mass. Microscopically, the tumor consisted of a mixture of solid islands of large pleomorphic epithelial tumor cells in the chondromyxoid stroma. There was moderate nuclear atypia and infiltration into the surrounding tissue. Because of the rare occurrence of the malignant chondroid syringoma, it can easily be misdiagnosed. |
