Progressive and Lactate Minimum Tests in the field and on a treadmill in Eventing horses

Eight Brazilian Equestrian horses were used, in a randomized 4 x 4 Latin square replicated and balanced, with four treatments and four experimental periods (treatments were the four tests). The progressive effort test in the field consisted by four steps of 1 minute at speeds 5.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 10.0 m/s, with 3 minutes of recovery intervals walking. In the progressive effort test on a treadmill horses performed the increment of 1m/s at speeds of 5.0, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0 and 10.0 m/s. In the lactate minimum test in the field, horses performed a sprint of 12m/s in 2 minutes followed by recovery of 3 minutes at trot (4.0 m/s), and then performed four steps at the speeds of 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0 m/s. In the lactate minimum test on a treadmill, horses performed a sprint of 12m/s in 2 minutes followed by recovery of 3 minutes at trot (4.0 m/s), and then performed four steps at the speeds of 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0 m/s. No significant differences (p> 0.05) were observed in mean values of V2, V4, V200 and glucose in the last step of progressive effort tests in the field and on a treadmill. The mean value of hematocrit in progressive effort test on a treadmill was higher (p 0.05) were observed in mean values of VLACMIN, hematocrit and plasma glucose in the last step of lactate minimum tests in the field and on a treadmill. No significant differences (p> 0.05) were observed between the mean values of V2 and VLACMIN, both being lower (p 0.05) were observed in mean glucose between the times of recovery after effort tests. Significant difference (p> 0.05) were observed in aspartate aminotrasnferase between times, with the increase beginning 2 hours after exercise reached its peak 6 hours after the exercise. No significant difference (p> 0.05) was observed in aspartate aminotransferase between treatments, as well as the interaction time and testing. Significant difference (p> 0.05) was observed in creatine kinase between the times, with the highest concentration observed 6 hours after the exercise. No significant differences (p> 0.05) were observed in creatine kinase between the tests, as well as the interaction between time and testing. V2, V4 and V200 during the progressive effort test were reproducible in the field and high-speed treadmill. Similarly, the variables VLACMIN and hematocrit during the lactate minimum tests were replicable in the field and on a treadmill. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi comparar testes de esfor?o progressivo e do lactato m?nimo realizados a campo e em esteira de alta velocidade. Foram usados oito equinos da ra?a Brasileiro de Hipismo, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema de Quadrado Latino 4 x 4 duplicado e balanceado, sendo quatro tratamentos e quatro per?odos experimentais, sendo os tratamentos os quatro testes. O teste de esfor?o progressivo a campo consistiu de 4 etapas de 1 minuto nas velocidades de 5,0; 7,0; 8,0 e 10,0 m/s, com intervalos de 3 minutos de recupera??o ao passo. No teste de esfor?o progressivo em esteira os equinos realizavam o incremento de 1m/s nas velocidades de 5,0; 6,0; 7,0; 8,0; 9,0 e 10,0m/s a cada minuto. No teste do lactato m?nimo a campo os equinos realizaram um sprint at? a velocidade de 12m/s dentro de 2 minutos seguido de recupera??o de 3 minutos ao trote na velocidade de 4,0 m/s, para ent?o realizar 4 etapas de incremento de velocidade a cada 1 minuto nas velocidades de 5,0; 6,0; 7,0 e 8,0 m/s. No teste do lactato m?nimo em esteira os equinos realizaram um sprint at? atingir a velocidade de 12m/s em 2 minutos, seguida de recupera??o de 3 minutos na velocidade de 4,0m/s e dando in?cio a fase incremental consistindo de 4 etapas de 3 minutos nas velocidades de 5,0; 6,0; 7,0 e 8,0m/s. N?o houve diferen?a (p>0,05) nos valores m?dios da V2, V4,V200 e glicose na ultima etapa de esfor?o f?sico nos testes de esfor?o progressivo a campo e em esteira. O valor m?dio do hemat?crito no teste de esfor?o progressivo em esteira foi maior (p0,05) nos valores m?dios da VLACMIN, hemat?crito e glicose plasm?tica na ?ltima etapa de esfor?o f?sico nos testes do lactato m?nimo a campo e em esteira. N?o houve diferen?a (p>0,05) entre os valores m?dios da V2 e da VLACMIN, sendo ambos menores (p0,05) nos valores m?dios de glicose plasm?tica entre os tempos de recupera??o ap?s os testes de esfor?o f?sico. Houve diferen?a significativa (p>0,05) nas concentra??es s?ricas de aspartato aminotransferase entre os tempos, com in?cio do aumento 2 horas ap?s o exerc?cio atingindo seu pico 6 horas ap?s t?rmino do exerc?cio. N?o houve diferen?a significativa (p>0,05) nas concentra??es s?ricas de aspartato aminotransferase entre tratamentos, bem como efeito da intera??o tempo e testes. Houve diferen?a significativa (p>0,05) nas concentra??es s?ricas de creatinaquinase entre os tempos, sendo a concentra??o mais elevada observada 6 horas ap?s t?rmino do exerc?cio. N?o houve diferen?a (p>0,05) nas concentra??es s?ricas de creatinaquinase entre os testes, bem como efeito da intera??o entre tempo e testes. As vari?veis V2, V4 e V200 nos testes de esfor?o progressivo demonstraram-se reproduz?veis a campo e em esteira de alta velocidade. De modo semelhante, as vari?veis VLACMIN e hemat?crito nos testes do lactato m?nimo foram reproduz?veis a campo e em esteira de alta velocidade.
