Popis: Introduction: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease of evolutionary character that affects about 347 million people around the world and increases the risk of other diseases, which can be very debilitating to the individual and are very costly to the health system. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of complications associated with diabetes, nutritional status and dietary habits of patients with type 2 DM and admitted to a hospital in the city of Pelotas, RS. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive study with a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus admitted in a hospital in the city of Pelotas. The date were collected in August and September 2016. A questionnaire was applied semiestructured with questions about food consumption and questions for evaluating the patient profile, the time of diagnosis, treatment and the reason for hospitalization, besides being collected measures of height, weight and waist circumference.
